[Guide] How to set up a Remote Masternode?
« on: 21. May 2017, 00:53:45 »
Initially you need to set up your remote server and install BitSend on it. This is not covered by this guide.

Definitions:
Local Machine = the machine that you are going to run your wallet on, which contains the 25 000 BSD.
Remote Machine = the machine you are running your static IP server on.

Steps:
On your Local Machine:
1. Make sure your wallet is turned off.
2. On Local machine, make sure your bitsend.conf file says "masternode=0" (empty/non-existing bitsend.conf file is also okay).
3. Start Bitsendd (Bitsend-QT also works) up on your Local Machine.
4. Enter the command "bitsendd getaccountaddress 0" and send 25 000 BSD to this address (if you are using Bitsend-QT then go into 'Tools->Debug ->Console' to enter the "getaccountaddress 0").
5) Enter the command "bitsendd masternode genkey" ("masternode genkey" if you are using Bitsend-QT).
6. Copy the long key that was generated and save it somewhere.
7. Turn off your wallet.
8. Put the key that you have just generated in your Local AND Remote bitsend.conf file as "masternodeprivkey=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx...".
9. Edit your bitsend.conf on your local machine and set "masternode=1".
10. Also add "masternodeaddr:RemoteIP:8886" to your Local config file (remoteIP = IP of your server).

On your Remote Machine:
1. Start Bitsendd on the Remote Machine by using the command "bitsendd" or "./bitsendd" depending on how you've installed it.
2) Enter the following command "bitsendd masternode debug" or "./bitsendd masternode debug" (again, depends on how you've installed it). You should get the following error:
Code: [Select]
"Missing masternode input, please look at the documentation for instructions on masternode creation"
This is how it should be. Do not worry.

On your Local Machine:
1. Start bitsendd or Bitsend-QT depending on which you've installed.
2. Unlock your local machine's wallet using this command: "bitsendd walletpassphrase YourPassword 60" (For Bitsend-QT go into 'Tools->Debug ->Console' to enter the command without the "bitsendd" prefix).
3. Enter the following command "bitsendd masternode start" or just "masternode start" if you're using Bitsend-QT.

That is it. You can check whether everything is running correctly by running one of of the following commands:
1) "bitsendd masternode list" - This should display a list of all masternode IPs, one of which should be your server.
2) "bitsendd masternode debug" - This should return "masternode started sucessfully"

Local bitsend.conf file:
Code: [Select]
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=YourUserName
rpcpassword=YourRPCPassword
server=1
daemon=1
listen=1
masternodeaddr=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8886  #(put in your public IP address here from your remote machine)
promode=1
masternode=1
masternodeprivkey=You_Generate_This_From_Your_Local_Wallet
addnode=107.170.2.241
addnode=45.58.51.22
addnode=104.207.131.249
addnode=68.197.13.94
addnode=109.30.168.16
addnode=31.41.247.133
addnode=37.120.190.76

Remote bitsend.conf file:
Code: [Select]
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=YourUserName
rpcpassword=YourRPCPassword
server=1
daemon=1
listen=1
promode=1
masternode=1
masternodeprivkey=You_Generate_This_From_Your_Local_Wallet
addnode=107.170.2.241
addnode=45.58.51.22
addnode=104.207.131.249
addnode=68.197.13.94
addnode=109.30.168.16
addnode=31.41.247.133
addnode=37.120.190.76

You can now shut down your local wallet and move your wallet.dat into cold storage. Do not forget to rename your wallet so that you know which is which! I suggesting keeping several backups of your primary wallet.

Which machine are you talking about? Local one? Once you set this up, you don't need to have the wallet.dat on a online system anymore.
